Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 - Is Cassius Properly Positioned?

The Wooden Award people have released the list of the award’s Midseason Top 25 candidates.  There are plenty of sensational players on the list, of course.  But isn’t it fair for SpartansWire to wonder a bit about how some of these guys are on a list that also includes Cassius Winston?

I can see where Texas Tech’s Jarrett Culver is more worthy of being a Wooden Award candidate than Cassius Winston in the way that I can see that having gout would be sort of fun and kind of intriguing from a human-biological perspective.

I’m not saying that Indiana’s Romeo Langford doesn’t belong on the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list.

All I’m saying is that if someone paid me a thousand dollars to attend or watch or listen to or “experience” one of those Ted Talks, I’d probably be busy with something already on my schedule at the time of the Ted Talk.

I’m not here to argue that Mike Daum of South Dakota State isn’t playing at a level that warrants his inclusion of the Wooden Award’s Midseason Top 25 list.

All I’m here to ask is, Who is Mike Daum?

Look – I get it – Virginia plays great defense and Tony Bennett is dashing and the University of Virginia is able to be sanctimonious because of Thomas Jefferson and all of that stuff.

But shouldn’t I be able to question the inclusion of De’Andre Hunter in the Wooden Award’s Midseason Top 25 simply because of the University of Maryland – Baltimore County Retrievers?

I have great respect for James Palmer, Jr and all that he’s done as a player for the Nebraska Huskers and I think it’s great that he’s on the Wooden Award’s Midseason Top 25 list.

But isn’t it fair for me to suggest that he deserves to be thought of with greater respect than Cassius Winston in the way Jim Brandstatter has greater respect for chocolate eclairs than butterscotch sticky buns?

I don’t mean to suggest that Ignas Brezhnev doesn’t deserve to mentioned in the same breath as Cassius Winston when people are discussing possible Wooden Award candidates.

All I’m suggesting is that a $23.00 pastrami sandwich from Zingerman’s has far too much fat on the pastrami, the rye bread is way too thin and soggy, and the aftertaste of the sandwich causes acute watery diarrhea.

See for yourself how the Wooden Award’s Midseason Top looks and let us know your thoughts on who warrants more respect on the list than Cassius Winston.
