A Fresh Start - Combined With A Fierce Defense - Starts Right Now

SpartansWire has written extensively about how Michigan State’s Brad Salem has been perfectly suited to be Mark Dantonio’s new offensive coordinator.  Today, Dantonio announced that Salem will take over in the role – and a new chapter for the Spartan program begins…

Over the last month, SpartansWire has advocated for Brad Salem to be given the keys to the Michigan State offense.

The headlines as they’ve appeared on SpartansWire have read:

“IS IT TIME TO GIVE THE KEYS OF THE OFFENSE TO BRAD SALEM?”

and

“BRAD SALEM CAN GIVE NEW LIFE TO SPARTAN OFFENSE.”

Today, Mark Dantonio announced that he has named Brad Salem the Spartans’ new offensive coordinator.

For those of you who might be new to SpartansWire, here are the links to the pieces we’ve written that pointed out the many reasons why we’ve believed that Salem has been perfectly positioned to take over the Spartan offense:

We will have much more on this major announcement in the minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months ahead.

For right now, however, SpartansWire believes strongly in the decision made by Dantonio.

And this is a sign that the next chapter of the Dantonio Era has begun with a firm, strong, creative, and practical move.

Salem knows the personnel.

Salem knows the terrain.

Salem is acutely familiar with the struggles of the offense of the last few years.

Salem can – and will – begin the work to fix this offense right now.

It won’t take Salem any time to learn where the bathroom is, learn what #8’s name is, learn how fast #7 is, understand what the meanings are of important games that appear on the schedule, and understand what is needed to improve the offense that needs improvement so badly.

Salem is young enough to have the energy necessary to jumpstart the unit – yet he’s experienced enough to be confident and aware of the challenges and the solutions (not to mention the realities of the entire situation).

And perhaps most importantly, Salem has had the trust of the program’s head coach for a decade.

And here’s a little known fact about Salem that’s been almost completely ignored by the folks who haven’t mentioned Salem’s name at all when the topic of a possible change with the offensive staff has been addressed –

From 2005 – 2009, Salem compiled a 31-26 record as the head coach at Augustana College including back-to-back 8-4 records in 2008 and 2009.

He already has run a college football program.

The experience along with the overall strategic and fundamental coaching acumen Salem has brought to Dantonio’s program has been one of the more under-recognized components of the success of this program ever since Salem’s arrival in 2010.

A different voice leading the offensive meeting room has been needed.

A fresh perspective making decisions on scheme, approach, preparations, and game-day play calling has been necessary.

Salem will bring the different voice and the fresh perspective – along with the familiarities that will be helpful in making the transitional improvements as quickly as possible.

The work is starting right now.

The Michigan State offense will be in good hands with Brad Salem.

The Michigan State defense is among the best in the nation.

The 2019 season can’t come soon enough.
