Things To Do While Waiting For Godot

Ohio State fans are on pins and needles. How to pass the time?

Judgment Day cometh.

The Ohio State University is going to need to announce its findings and subsequent decisions related to the fate of Urban Meyer in the coming days.

Presumably, the investigation that’s been conducted over the last couple of weeks is either concluded or is close to being concluded.

What did Urban Meyer know and when did he know it?

It’s a trite and cliched question – but, really, that’s what this all boils down to.

Will Urban Meyer be Ohio State’s coach after some sort of suspension?

Will Ryan Day become the Luke Fickell of 2018?

Will Urban Meyer and Ohio State part ways in the way that Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton parted ways in 1974?

Will Urban Meyer and Ohio State part ways in the way that Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton parted ways in 1976?

Will Urban Meyer and Ohio State part ways in the way that Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky parted ways in 1996?

While the world awaits the verdict, what to do??

Here are some suggestions to Buckeyes who are having a tough time with all of this:

  • Continue to lash out at Brett McMurphy since it’s all his fault that Earle Bruce’s grandson is a lout.

  • Examine the film from the moment when Woody Hayes allegedly punched Clemson’s Charlie Bauman in the throat.  There is a pretty credible theory that’s making the rounds across the internet that Brett McMurphy was on the sideline as a young boy during that game and that he grabbed Woody’s arm and thrust it directly into Bauman’s throat. The grainy film doesn’t provide a clear shot of McMurphy and it seems as if Woody punched Bauman in the throat under his own volition – but the idea that it was McMurphy forcing Woody to punch Bauman in the throat seems quite plausible and should be examined closely.

  • Think back to the excitement of the announcement that Earle Bruce was named the head coach of the Buckeyes.

  • Gather with fellow Buckeyes in your neighborhood – perhaps in a park or your town’s common area – and sway to and fro while singing “Hang On Sloopy.”

  • Make a pilgrimage to Salters, South Carolina and pay a visit to Art Schlichter where he’s currently incarcerated at FCI Williamsburg and is serving a ten-year sentence for theft and “engaging in corrupt activity” ranging from wire fraud, bank fraud, tax evasion, gambling, drug use and distribution, failing to beat Minnesota in 1981, and failing to beat UMAA in 1980 largely due to his inability to lead the offense to a single touchdown in the 9-3 loss.

  • Relive the two victories Ohio State had over UMAA during the John Cooper Era and try to decide which one was the best, which one provides the most long-lasting pride, and which one best represents the Cooper Era’s successes.

  • Discuss the best parts about the way the 4-4 Michigan State Spartans entered Ohio Stadium as a 28.5 point underdog on November 7th, 1998, fell behind 24-9, fought back to take a 28-24 lead, and held on for the win that destroyed Ohio State’s chances at a national championship.

  • Discuss the best parts about the way Urban Meyer and Ohio State got Dantonioed in the 2013 Big Ten Championship Game and how the Spartans, once again, destroyed Ohio State’s chances at a national championship.

  • Discuss the best parts about the way Urban Meyer and Ohio State got Dantonioed on November 21st, 2015 and how Michael Geiger’s Windmill will forever represent Ohio State’s chances at a national championship being, once again, destroyed by Michigan State.

  • Discuss the best part about the way Jim Tressel resurrected the University of Akron’s profile when he became the university’s Vice President of Strategic Engagement.

  • Analyze the one or two things that kept Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes from getting the job done against Clemson in the 31-0 CFP Fiesta Bowl loss to the Tigers.

  • Prepare for the excitement of the season ahead with gusto since everything will revert right back to normal soon due to the fact that The Ohio State University is as likely to do the right thing as UMAAers are likely to be proud of this:
