It feels a bit strange to say but I think it’s true –

Javon Ringer doesn’t get the credit he deserves for being one of the all time greatest to ever play football for Michigan State.

With apologies to the data miners and statisticians, I do not have nor can I present empirical evidence to support my theory.

It’s just a sense I have.

Consider that Javon Ringer is Michigan State’s ALL TIME LEADER in the somewhat significant category of ALL-PURPOSE YARDS.

ALL TIME LEADER.

Michigan State is not Mississippi State.

Michigan State has had powerhouse monsters who have worn the Green & White.

Ringer might just be the most powerful and monstrous powerhouse monster.

Nobody will ever really lose an argument claiming that Lorenzo White is the greatest horse to carry the football for the Spartans.

But is anyone really even attempting to argue that Ringer belongs right, smack next to Lorenzo?

5,426 all-purpose yards for Javon Ringer.

That is a crap load of all-purpose yards.

That career mark is good for 106th place in the history of college football.

I’m not trying to say that Javon Ringer is under appreciated on a national scale when it comes to recognizing the all-time greatest all-purpose yardage achievers.

All I’m saying is that I’d love to see the teams against whom these guys played when they amassed their all-purpose yards that put them ahead of Javon Ringer on the all-time list:

Brandon West, Western Michigan – 7,764 all purpose yards.

T.Y. Hilton, Florida International – 7,498

Bobby Rainey, Western Kentucky – 6,909

Paul Palmer, Temple – 6,609

Howard Jackson, UTEP – 6,153

Troy Edwards, Louisiana Tech – 6,031

Jerrel Jernigan, Troy – 5,985

Jovon Bouknight, Wyoming – 5,921

Phillip Livas, Louisiana Tech – 5,738

Ryan Benjamin, Pacific – 5,706

Deonce Whitaker, San Jose State – 5,596

Brelan Chancellor, North Texas – 5,503

Chad Owens, Hawaii – 5,461

This isn’t meant to denigrate these fellows.

It is, however, meant to point out that not a single one of these chaps would have been able to keep up with Javon Ringer in the weight room, on the practice field, on the sideline, in the huddle, and on the football field itself.

With 54 days to go until kickoff, @MSU_Football has found a nifty way to integrate Ringer’s all-purpose yardage mark into their countdown.

More importantly, they’ve put together and even niftier rip of what they’re saying is the Top 3 Javon Ringer plays from his career as a Spartan.

And before we sign off with this article, how about we give a tip of the cap to none other than John L Smith for bringing Javon Ringer to East Lansing?

John L might not get many meals comped when he comes back to visit all of his close friends in East Lansing.

But John L did a few things that left a legacy.

Seeing that Javon Ringer would become a powerfully monstrous powerhouse of a football player for Michigan State will live on as one of John L’s finest contributions to the program….
