'19 Recruiting Class - Ranked Higher Than Tottenham Hotspur And Uruguay

The Spartans are crushing it on the recruiting trail.  The 2019 class has reached Top 20 status and will only continue to climb in the rankings.

I’m not here to say that I think that all of the recruiting mumbo jumbo that emanates from the basements of grown men who dedicate their lives to speculating on the football fortunes of kids who are not yet licensed drivers is as meaningless as the World Cup.

All I’m here to say is that the World Cup is as meaningful as UMAA J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach Jim Harbaugh’s “accomplishments” since he became UMAA’s J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach.

I know, there are a lot of people all over the world that love this World Cup thing.

And the ones that I know who love it seem to be the types that wear those English Premiere League jerseys to social affairs simply to demonstrate how avant garde they are and how they’ve grown beyond the mundane nature of Americana and its antiquated past times of baseball and summer town fairs.

The middle aged suburban men who wear those English Premiere League jerseys and somehow have a passion for the Serbian team competing in the World Cup enjoy watching whiny European men run around a large patch of grass attempting to kick the ball into the net maybe – maybe – once or twice over a seven hour period.

I know – I’m probably being close minded and even xenophobic in my reluctance to understand the beauty of the sport.

And when I watch the excitement in this clip, I can’t help but feel how and why it must be a transcendent experience to both play and watch this stuff –

The perspective from the lovers of this futbol phenomenon goes a little like this –

“I’ve been getting up at 3:30a every Sunday morning to watch English Premiere League games ever since 2016.  I also belong to a local club that gathers at McGowan’s Scottish Pub once a month to share our stories about the magic of the sport and the latest news regarding the clubs we support.  The U.S. just doesn’t have anything that comes close to the excitement of the EPL….”

When this has been said to me by the really smart people who love futbol and the World Cup and the English Premiere League, I manage to keep my mouth shut and not say the following –

“Yeah – that’s cool and you’re cool but I really feel sorry for you because you’re an idiot.  I think that watching reruns of William F. Buckley, Jr and Gore Vidal debate the fundamental differences between conservatism and liberalism is far more exciting than watching those English Premiere League guys play soccer matches.”

Am I allowed to say that I’m proud of the fact that I give the basement dwelling recruiting experts more respect than the English Premiere League jersey-wearing middle aged men who think they’re demonstrating some sort of intellectual superiority by “loving” the English Premiere League and thinking it’s more exciting than a Big Ten football game on an American college campus during Autumn’s peak?

And so, I might finally get to my point here –

The basement dwelling recruiting experts have taken notice of Michigan State’s surge related to its 2019 recruiting class.

The onslaught of commitments illustrates a pretty simple fact:

Anyone out there who hoped and hoped and hoped that the disastrous 2016 season for the Spartans was going to put a stop to all of this sustained winning in East Lansing is going to have to just close their eyes really tight and hope and hope and hope that something else will put a stop to Michigan State’s championship-level football program.

The fifteen commits that all announced they’d be wearing Green & White – particularly the six who committed within the last week – have elevated the 2019 class to Top 20 status.

Our pal Matt Wenzel of MLive.com has a great breakdown of every one of the fifteen commitments below.

So, if you’re one of the folks who enjoys all of this World Cup stuff, I was really only joking about my contempt for the World Cup’s majesty and the spiritual transcendence of the English Premiere League.

I actually really like Tottenham Hotspur.

I’ve been a huge fan of the soccer/futbol team from Uruguay and I’m beyond excited about how Uruguay is atop the Group A standings and if Uruguay makes it to the World Cup Final Match Game, I’m taking my son to Moscow for the Championship Title Match Game Contest because it’s always been a Bucket List thing for me to go to the World Cup Title Championship Match Game (particularly if Uruguay is battling for the Championship Title).

Here’s the breakdown on Michigan State’s sensational efforts related to the 2019 Spartan recruiting class, thanks to Matt Wenzel of MLive.com –
