LionsWire gives us a nice look at the 2019 crop of NFL prospects from the state of Michigan.
Our pals over at LionsWire have a nifty piece that takes a good look the NFL prospects from the state of Michigan for the 2019 Draft.
Props to Jeff Risdon for the way he kicks off his breakdown of Michigan State’s Brian Lewerke –
“Every Michigan State quarterback gets drafted, often higher than expected. Lewerke will be the latest in that line when he hits the draft, which could come after the ’18 college season.
His exceptional performances against Northwestern and Penn State show the rising junior’s high potential.”
It says here that Lewerke won’t even consider leaving East Lansing early for the 2018 Draft – however, if he’s able to hoist the CFP trophy in January, maybe he’ll take the leap early.
There was a time when conspiracy theorists claimed that the Detroit Lions and Michigan State Spartans were the football equivalent of Clark Kent – nobody ever was able to connect the dots and establish that we never saw the Spartans and the Lions in the same place at the same time.
It made sense to some of us who rubbed our chins, looked to sky, contemplated the possibilities, and posited that each team’s penchant for grabbing defeat from the clutches of victory meant the teams were one group of interchangeable players, coaches, administrators, and the like.
Times have changed.
Wayne Fontes is no longer the torch bearer of the Pontiac Lions and John L Smith is climbing a mountain somewhere.
But the way Risdon identifies Lewerke as one of the top 2019 NFL prospects says that not only have the Lions made great strides, the ink-stained scribes who cover the Lions have followed suit.
“Davis broke out in his junior season as a big-play threat from the “X” receiver spot in East Lansing. At 6-4 and blessed with good burst and acceleration for his size, Davis has a chance to shoot up draft boards with a strong 2018 season.”
I only have one issue with LionsWire’s offerings – what does a guy need to do to be able to sink his teeth into a think piece on Eric Hipple?
