Question:

Who looked better than Jaren Jackson, Jr last night during the NBA Draft?

Answer:

Not one single person looked better than Jaren Jackson, Jr last night during the NBA Draft.

Very few people know this but Jaren Jackson, Jr consulted with me on wardrobe strategy for the NBA Draft.

He’s followed my fashion sense for quite a while and when I shared with him a bevy of photographs showcasing the various styles I’ve sported over the years, he decided to come here to my house and have an in-person inspection of the items in my closet.

His initial choice of upper-body attire was this sport coat that I wore smartly in 1985 at Katie Walsh’s wedding at Sacred Heart Church in Winnetka, Illinois –

Unfortunately, when he tried it on, it was not quite big enough.

So, when he spotted this wrap hanging in my closet, his eyes lit up like a Christmas tree –

Unfortunately, this sport coat didn’t work (the sleeves were just a touch too short).

So, Jaren kept searching through my closet – and when he came upon this sport coat, his giddiness was comparable to a youngster prior to receiving a elaborately wrapped birthday gift –

I know what you’re thinking.

You’re thinking, “Hmmm – that sport coat is very nifty – but isn’t it the same sport coat you are shown wearing at Katie Walsh’s wedding in 1985 at Sacred Heart Church in Winnetka, Illinois?”

I can see where and why you’d think that.

But the cold, hard truth is that the two sport coats are, in fact, two different sport coats.

They look a lot alike – but the madras patterns are different, the fabric is actually totally different, the one from 1985 had a much “stiffer” fit while the one that I don now is far “looser” and has a much more “casual” feel to it.

And as excited as Jaren Jackson was about wearing this second madras plaid sport coat, the problem was not that it didn’t fit (it sort of fit – at least, it fit enough to satisfy Jaren) – the problem was that I hadn’t had it dry cleaned in a long time and Jaren didn’t feel great about wearing a sport coat that wasn’t tip top for the occasion.

So, when he found this one in my closet –

….and when he tried it on and discovered that it fit like a glove, the wardrobe decision was complete.

And, Adam Silver is a very cool guy.

Jaren – you’e welcome.

It was my pleasure to guide you.

Now, go get ’em.
