76 Days Until Kickoff - Home Winning Pct, 76% Under Dantonio

With 76 days to go until the August 31st kickoff against Utah State at Spartan Stadium, @MSU_Football points out that the Spartans have a meaningful home field advantage in the Dantonio Era.

It shouldn’t come as any surprise to Spartans that Michigan State has won a hell of a lot of games played at Spartan Stadium ever since Mark Dantonio took over as head coach prior to the 2007 season.

Those of us who have spent dreary afternoons and evenings inside of the old stadium over the decades aren’t naive to think that the Green & White have boasted any sort of transcendent home field advantage through the ages.

However, nobody can argue against the fact that when Spartan Stadium has its juices flowing and the Spartans are firing on all cylinders, there are few home environments that are as chaotically good for the home squad.

Consider that Michigan State’s all time winning percentage at Spartan Stadium (including periods when the stadium was Macklin Field, etc), and won-loss record statistics look like this:

Games played (through 2016 – stats do not include the 2017 season): 1,178

All time record at home: 452-180-18

All time home winning percentage: .709

Now, consider that since the Mark Dantonio’s first season as the head coach of the Spartans, the home winning percentage is .766.

In eleven seasons, Dantonio’s program has bested the all time home winning percentage by a healthy margin.

As is always the case, folks will want to see how that compares to the home winning percentages of the Bog Boys out there.  Let’s try to quantify some comparisons.

Would it surprise Ohio State fans to know that the Buckeyes’ all time winning percentage at Ohio Stadium is 76%?

The perspective here is that Ohio State fans are certain that the Buckeyes’ all time home winning percentage hovers around 98.7%.

Would it surprise UMAA fans to know that the Wolverines’ all time winning percentage for games played at UMAA Football Stadium in Ann Arbor is 78%?

The perspective here is that UMAA fans are certain that the Wolverines’ all time home winning percentage is a crisp 100% due to the fact that UMAA has never actually lost a game to any opponent since any time a game ends when a UMAA opponent has more points than UMAA, the reason for that is fraudulence from the officiating, an unfair clock operator, and, of course, an unfairly crowned playing surface and, therefore, all games have, in fact, been won by UMAA even though those games aren’t recognized as “wins” for UMAA by the NCAA or the Big Ten.

Michigan State has won 76% of its games played at Spartan Stadium since Mark Dantonio took over.

That means something, people.

And the winning percentage is going to increase with this season and the seasons to come.

*** Editor’s note:

The 1990 and 2015 games played between Michigan State and UMAA at UMAA Football Stadium in Ann Arbor will always and forever officially count as “losses” for UMAA since UMAA did, in fact, lose those football games and since Michigan State did, in fact, win those football games.
