89 Days Until Kickoff - Shilique Calhoun, Spartan Legend

Every Spartan knows his name, correctly pronounces his name, and correctly spells his name.  Always and forever.  Shilique Calhoun.

I was inside of whatever Jerry Jones’s gigantic Death Star stadium is actually called (AT&T Stadium, I believe) on the night when Michigan State played Alabama in the College Football Playoff.

Let’s forget about the result of the game – Michigan State made it to the College Football Playoff and that’s the measure of greatness for college football programs nowadays.

The thing that sticks out in my mind from that night?

The fact that the idiot public address announcer for THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF referred to Shilique Calhoun as Shaquille Calhoun all night.

The idiot public address announcer also referred to Josiah Price as Joshua Price all night.

But Shilique Calhoun’s name is not, was not, and won’t ever be Shaquille Calhoun.

Calhoun was not called by the wrong name by the following people/publications/bodies in 2015 when they named him Second Team All American for the THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR:

Associated Press, CBS Sports, Football Writers Association of America, Phil Steele, Walter Camp Football Foundation.

The Big Ten Coaches AND Media didn’t get his name wrong when they named his First Team All Big Ten after the 2013, 2014, and 2015 seasons.

And when the Oakland Raiders selected Calhoun in the third round (75th overall pick) of the 2016 NFL Draft, they got his name right.

There are zero Spartans who think this Spartan legend is named Shaquille.

Eighty-nine days until kickoff and there is only one Spartan who gets slotted into this spot of the 100-day countdown to kickoff by @MSU_Football.

Thanks, Shilique…
