93 Days Until Kickoff - Domination from '12 and '13 Spartan Defenses

@MSU_Football continues it countdown until kickoff.  Today, a focus on the fierce defenses of 2012 and 2013.

If there was a way to quantify how many times college football teams over the history of the game started drives from inside of their own 20-yard line and wound up scoring, I’d be willing to wager than no team has ever been able to tout the statistic that @MSU_Football has tweeted out today.

Stop and think about the statistic below – over the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Michigan State opponents started a possession inside of their own 20-yard line 93 times and scored twice.

Am I the only one who thinks that’s as amazing as a man’s ability to finish a full supreme burrito combo deal at Panchero’s, the home of the two-pound burrito, at 3am on a Friday night/Saturday morning without a respectable upchucking of the burrito?

The 2012 and 2013 Spartan defenses were incredible by every measuring stick.

Consider that each year’s defensive unit finished the season ranked in the nation’s top ten defensive rankings across all of the relevant categories – rushing defense, passing defense, scoring defense, and overall defense.

Consider these Spartans were creating havoc for opponents during the 2012 and 2013 seasons:

Shilique Calhoun

Max Bullough

Trae Waynes

Darqueze Dennard

Denicos Allen

Demetrious Cox

Will Gholston

Denzel Drone

Kurtis Drummond

Jermaine Edmonson

Kyler Elsworth

Darien Harris

Joel Heath

Darian Hicks

Mylan Hicks

Tyler Hoover

Taiwan Jones

Damon Knox

Isaiah Lewis

Micajah Reynolds

Marcus Rush

Mark Scarpinato

Lawrence Thomas

RJ Williamson

That is a hell of a list of badass football players right there.

Those fellas wreaked absolute havoc on opponents for two full seasons and the initial stat we’ve recognized after seeing it touted on this @MSU_Football tweet really jumped out at us.

In 93 tries, opponents drove from inside of their own 20-yard line and scored a grand total of TWO TIMES against this gang of Spartan defenders.

If I had a chance to do 93 jumping jacks in under a minute, I might be able to hit the mark but I wouldn’t be able to walk properly for a week.

I don’t believe I’d be able to complete 93 Marine-style pushups in 93 minutes if challenged to such a task.

I highly doubt I’d be able to not speak for 93 straight seconds.

I don’t think there is any chance that I’d be able to name 93 different types of animals.

But this stat – wowza.

Can anyone properly quantify the level of greatness this stat represents?

Thanks, @MSU_Football….
