Early Vegas lines are coming out – and Michigan State seems to be in good favor with the Ace Rothstein and his people.
Despite being a novice when it comes to laying timber, I do understand that when a team is labeled as a “favorite,” that means that smart people in Las Vegas think that team has a better chance to win than the team that they are playing against.
Las Vegas experts are beginning to release their opinions and perspectives on the college football season that continues to creep closer and closer.
In terms of Michigan State’s game against UMAA on October 20th, it appears as though (for the moment), Desmond Howard’s thoughts on jersey sales and brand equity don’t carry a lot of water with Mo Green.
Michigan State opens up as a 1-point favorite over UMAA, according to South Point Casino (which happens to be one of my favorite places in Las Vegas to get a really great jamoca milkshake at the Arby’s just on the fringe of the main lobby over by the luggage store and the statue of Sammy Davis, Jr.).
Does this mean that Michigan State is going to win this football game?
No, it does not mean that.
But, as my pals who like to talk far more about pre-game point spreads and how that’s the real way to determine how good a team is rather than looking at, say, the results of the football games the team has played, this point spread suggests that there are people who think that Michigan State will defeat UMAA this season.
The notion of Michigan State defeating UMAA is a notion that is foreign to most of the casual observers out there – and that’s because most people out there don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to just about everything.
(Really cool shirt)
Readers of SpartansWire understand that Michigan State has beaten UMAA more times in the last decade than Lester convinced Ginger that his plan was the right plan.
So maybe some other people out there are starting to understand how this thing has been working for the last ten years or so.
Kudos to our new favorite Vegas book – South Point Casino.
I’ll be making my monthly trek to Vegas to lay down some cabbage on some ponies and ball games and whatnot this weekend – South Point Casino will be my main hub for the weekend as a show of respect.
In addition to the season opener against Notre Dame, there are four other marquee games on Michigan’s 2018 football schedule.
And the Wolverines have opened as underdogs in two of them.
South Point Casino in Las Vegas released the opening point spreads for its “Games of the Year” today and, as expected, Michigan is more than a touchdown underdog in its November showdown against Ohio State.
But the Wolverines also aren’t favored against Michigan State, either.
Here are the notable Michigan games, courtesy of South Point:
• Oct. 13: Michigan -3 vs. Wisconsin
• Oct. 20: Michigan +1 at Michigan State
• Nov. 3: Michigan -3.5 vs. Penn State
• Nov. 24: Michigan +9 at Ohio State
Also of note: Michigan State opens a 6-point underdog to Ohio State.
