I’ll admit – I’m not an expert wagerer.

I don’t have “a guy” who I have on speed dial that knows me by the tone and sound of my voice and knows exactly what my position(s) is/are on any given Saturday (or Sunday) in the Fall.

I’ve never really understood the obsession with wagering.

I sort of equate it to whatever the obsession folks might have with opioids.

Are there really any wagerers out there that are “up” over the entire course of their “careers” as wagerers to such an extent that they are flush with disposable monies from their expert wagering?

Are there truly “casual” wagerers who dabble simply because they find it to be an intriguing way to add more intrigue to what is already inherently intriguing to an intriguing degree?

Or, are those “casual” wagerers “casual” only in their heads with the reality being that they’ve given away lots and lots and lots of money on Mississippi State every year for many years and then spend significant amounts of time wondering why they’re short on child support payments for the month?

I’ve never heard of the expert oddsmaker “OddsShark” – but I’m aware of the fact that I’m the weird one for this.

However, I have tip my cap to “OddsShark” for coming up with the nifty name handle.

The brand logo – and the brand’s family of marks – is very clever too.

Right about now is the time when we start to hear about projected win totals for college football teams – and OddsShark has been swimming through the college football waters, undoubtedly examining the many different rosters and schedules and depth charts and whatnot.

OddsShark has come up with a list of projected win totals and it’s fun and illuminating to examine OddsShark’s projections.

Below is the list as it appears in a piece published today in The Detroit Free Press.

Wow – OddsShark has stepped out and projected that Alabama will win 10.5 games.

That’s a lot of games for Alabama to win, I guess.

OddsShark has projected NC State’s win total to be 7.5.

OddsShark has speculated that Ohio State will win 9.5 games.

Ah – and there it is – OddsShark’s projection for Michigan State.

According to OddsShark, Michigan State will win 7.5 games this coming Fall.

I asked the SpartansWire research unit to check out OddsShark’s body of work and our unit was able to find other projections and general speculative offerings from OddsShark.

Take a quick look at what OddsShark is saying about these other hot topics on which I’d encourage our readers to lay some serious timber:

OddsShark says that there is a 78% chance that Sir Elton John will lose at least 7.5 pounds between now and September 1st of this calendar year.

OddsShark is on record as having speculated that the total amount of viewers for the Super Bowl this coming February will be at least 7.5 million across the globe.

OddsShark has sent exclusive information to the subscribers of his YouTube channel regarding his projection that Kevin Spacey will soon announce that he’s donated $7.5 million to the #MeToo movement and that he’s enlisted Charlie Rose to join him on a speaking engagement tour that will shine a light on the 7.5 years Spacey spent toiling in obscurity as he worked so hard to achieve his dreams of becoming a stage and film artist.

In a tweet that OddsShark sent to his 7.5 Twitter followers, OddsShark speculated that NBC News’s Brian Williams was one of the 7.5 people who were right there in the private dining room when Steven Spielberg came up with the idea for Arachnophobia.

OddsShark used to have a weekly newsletter that was mailed (hard copy) to the 7.5 newsletter followers who tapped into OddsShark’s expertise in order to get the edge for that week’s matchups and in one of the newsletters, OddsShark speculated that Tim Tebow would evoke The Lord at least 7.5 times in the week leading up to Florida’s game with Alabama.

One time, according to sources, OddsShark made a wager with friends that he could eat 7.5 French Silk pies in one sitting at Baker’s Square.  I have asked our research unit to find out whether he won that wager or if he came up short.

OddsShark is a great oddsmaker, of course.

And OddsShark knows what he’s talking about when it comes to college football teams and players and coaches.

Perhaps it’s fair for me to ponder yet agree to disagree with OddsShark’s projection that Michigan State will win 7.5 games this coming Fall.

If Michigan State wins 7.5 games or less this coming Fall, I’ll make the following commitment to OddsShark:

I will cover 7.5 large-sized radishes with vinegar, dip the vinegar-covered radishes in Vick’s VapoRub, sprinkle McCormick’s California Style Garlic Pepper all over each of the treated radishes and eat all 7.5 of the radishes in less than 7.5 seconds.

Between now and knowing whether or not OddsShark is right about Michigan State’s win total in the coming season, one thing is for certain: I will be tapping into OddsShark’s information for all of the wagers I’ll be making on a daily basis.

College football projected win totals: Michigan 8.5, Michigan State 7.5

The Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans return a lot of starters this fall, but still fall short of Big Ten rivals, this oddsmaker says

Can you smell the college football in the air yet?

Okay, may not. It’s not even summer yet. But we do have projected win totals from at least one oddsmaker, and it may or may not stir up some conversation and debate among Michiganders.

BetOnline.ag has released the over-under for opening college football win totals, with defending champion Alabama at the top at 10.5.

But what’s interesting, as it pertains to us, is Michigan football at 8.5 wins … and Michigan State football at 7.5.

Opening NCAAF Win Totals (@betonline_ag):

Alabama 10.5
Auburn 8.5
Baylor 5.5
Clemson 10.5
Florida 7.5
FSU 8.5
Georgia 10.5
Louisville 7.5
LSU 6.5
Miami 8.5
Michigan 8.5
MSU 7.5
Mississippi State 7.5
Missouri 6.5
NC State 7.5
Notre Dame 8.5
Ohio State 9.5

Michigan State is coming off a 10-3 season, including a win over Washington State in the Holiday Bowl, and returns almost every starter in 2018. And it beat Michigan 14-10 in Ann Arbor, coach Mark Dantonio’s second win against U-M coach Jim Harbaugh in three seasons.

Meanwhile, U-M went 8-5 last season, but enters this fall with its own slew of returning starters (including 9 on defense), a promising transfer quarterback in Shea Patterson and another round of hype, with many expecting a step up despite a brutal schedule this fall.

Depth chart projections: Michigan Michigan State

Other notable Big Ten over-under win totals: Ohio State at 9.5, Penn State at 9.5 and Wisconsin at 9.5.
