Enjoy Your Lunch With 1990 Episode of "The George Perles Show"

1990’s never-to-be-forgotten Spartan victory over #1 ranked UMAA shouldn’t overshadow a scintillating episode of the following morning’s episode of “The George Perles Show.”  Dial in and enjoy Terry Braverman and Coach Perles wax poetic in the studio about one of the better days ever for the Green & White.

Terry Braverman provides a primer on hosting fundamentals.

Coach Perles is riding high and is as sharp as a sponge – how about his reference around the 1:00 mark to who the proudest man should be, Governor James Blanchard?

“This is his state, brotha…”

That’s the way to keep it real, George.

Phenomenal locker room footage of the Spartans after the win, too.

Around the 2:20 mark, Coach Perles shows his media savvy by pointing out the broadcasting dynamics of the game –

“Again, I think ABC’s very happy – they did a very good job of entertaining the country.”

Wonderful production creativity with the integration of BTO’s “Taking Care of Business” as the game stats run full screen in and out of commercial breaks.

Peabody-worthy reporting from Walt Sorg about females reporting in the locker room, too.

Yes, that legendary Spartan Sports Information Director Fred Stabley talking about the issues related to women in the locker room.

Not surprisingly, Stabley and Michigan State showed typical progressivism by creating a scenario that allowed access for female journalists to the football team after games.

And take a look at a whipper-snapping young reporter, Jack Ebling talking about the access to the players and the ways Michigan State made it fair and professional.

Perry Farrell even gets in on the commentary – and it’s somewhat surprising for me to see that Perry Farrell was a reporter for the Detroit Free Press in addition to his core business as the frontman for Jane’s Addiction.  Special kudos to Farrell for his candor as he says, “I’m not comfortable being around a bunch of naked guys myself so I could see where it might present a problem with a woman.”

Don’t clock out of this clip too soon, either – the closing credits that feature the presenting sponsors are a treat.

Enjoy.
